The Corktown neighbourhood of Hamilton came together for a vibrant community planting day at the historic Cooperage building, supported through the #GreenMyCity Grant program. Local students from Queen Victoria School, architects, community members, and partners worked side by side to plant a large rain garden in front of the 150-year-old stone building. The new garden, featuring a rich mix of native plants, will help divert up to 4,000 gallons of storm water from the roof each summer, while creating a welcoming habitat for pollinators and a beautiful gathering space for the community. The event was a true collaboration between The Cooperage, Invizij Architects, Hamilton Therapy Collective, Corktown Hamilton, and Verbinnen’s Nursery Ltd., with support from Green Cities Foundation, Landscape Ontario Horticultural Trades Association, and National Platinum Sponsor RBC Insurance.
