The Indigenous Space Enhancement Project at Collingwood Neighbourhood House transformed an urban green space in Renfrew-Collingwood into a vibrant, community-led hub rooted in Indigenous knowledge and ecological sustainability. Featuring an Indigenous food and medicine garden, a land-based learning hub, and inclusive gathering spaces, the project fosters food sovereignty, climate resilience, and intergenerational connection. Supported by Indigenous and BIPOC community members, local residents, and partner organizations, it created a welcoming and nourishing space for all.

This is the only park in the municipality, and the project transformed a large unused green space into a community gathering area. Bordered by a cycling path, the park now serves as a central space for residents, children attending summer camp, and nearby school children. Future upgrades will include exercise equipment and a garden to support biodiversity. The project helps reduce heat islands, strengthens resilience to climate change, and raises awareness of environmental issues, ultimately improving the quality of life for residents.

This transformative project turns a previously unused 1–2 acre property into a thriving community garden and welcoming green space. Led by 50 dedicated volunteers during a large-scale garden raising day, the initiative features a well-organized 70' x 30' garden with 18 individual plots, a larger 3' x 30' community plot, and a 10' x 3' pollinator garden. The remaining open field provides flexible space for community gatherings, recreation, and outdoor activities. The garden’s primary goals are to supply fresh produce to the on-site food bank—supporting 70 households each week—promote healthy eating habits, engage youth in hands-on food education, and nurture local pollinator populations. By fostering volunteerism and shared community events, this project creates a space where people can grow food, build connections, and contribute to a greener, healthier community. Convenient access from the church parking lot and nearby residential walkway ensures the space is welcoming and accessible to all.

About 40 volunteers came together at West Lion’s Park Gleaning Food Forest. They cleared weeds, restored pathways, and planted new trees and shrubs to boost the forest’s productivity and help local community members access fresh produce. The day was also a chance to learn about edible gardening, local wildlife, and winter preparation, while pressing locally donated apples into cider. This project, dormant for two years, aims to revitalize the park as a hub for food production, community connection, and environmental education.

Delicious things are now taking root in Centennial Park, Dollard-des-Ormeaux, QC! With the help of GRAME, the community brought a new food forest to life. The space is designed to boost biodiversity, support pollinators, and encourage local food production, while connecting residents, schools, and nature enthusiasts in a healthier urban environment.

The Dalhousie Community Association Garden Committee transformed unused land into a vibrant community hub for gardening, education, and recreation. With the support of Green Cities Foundation, Landscape Alberta, and Blue Grass Nursery & Garden Centre, volunteers came together to create a space that fosters biodiversity and connection. Since the event, Blue Grass Nursery has enhanced the site further by planting fruit trees, an ash, a mayday, and mountain pines, another step toward a greener, more vibrant Dalhousie!Plans to transform an unused greenspace into a 37,500 sq ft food forest and community garden. The plan features 45 raised beds (including 11 accessible), edible trees and shrubs, a pergola gathering space, and pathways with seating. Designed with community and city input, it promotes gardening, education, and recreation while enhancing biodiversity with native, drought-resistant plants. Phase 1 begins in summer 2025, with future expansions as funding allows. The project fosters environmental stewardship, social connection, and a vibrant, inclusive space for all ages.
